Hoy estamos realizando una acción que comienza con el camino que habitualmente hacia Duchamp para ir de su departamento, en Alsina 1734, hacia su taller, ubicado en Sarmiento 1507, donde terminaremos con una partida de ajedrez.

Hoy, en ambos lugares, las cosas han cambiado; en uno hay un estacionamiento y en el otro lugar, una plaza seca que forma parte del Centro Cultural Gral. San Martín de la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Las cosas han cambiado, el aspecto de la ciudad también, los lugares que conoció Duchamp no son los mismos, pero la ciudad es la misma. Todo es lo mismo pero no es lo mismo, como aquel famoso río del filósofo.

Queremos saber qué hizo Duchamp en esta ciudad. Según parece, trabajó un tiempo en detalles del Gran Vidrio, pintó un marco de color verde azulado que estaba en las paredes de su taller. También se dedicó a crear piezas de ajedrez y, por último, el envío de un libro de geometría a su hermana para que lo ate al balcón de su casa y que el tiempo se encargue de construir la obra. Aquí juega al ajedrez con el entusiasmo de siempre. Dice: "juego noche y día y nada en el mundo me interesa más que encontrar la movida justa".

Tanto para Mallarmé como para Duchamp, el azar construye el arte, un arte que se va a dar con la vida y sin la presencia de la inspiración. Un azar que ordena y condena todo lo que hacemos, un azar que nos lleva siempre al destino manifieste de nuestras rutas. Un azar, que como en los sueños, va armando como un rompecabezas el imaginario que luego se hará presente en los actos cotidianos. ¿Esto lo viví ya o es un sueño?

Cada día salimos por azar y cada día el azar es el encargado de construir el escenario de los sueños.

Realizamos una cacería, y cuando tengamos en nuestras manos a la última presa, se habrá terminado todo y entonces... despertaremos.

Today we are performing an action that starts by following the way that Duchamp usually did to go from his apartment, at 1734 Alsina Street, to his studio, at 1507 Sarmiento Street, where we’ll close it all by playing a chess game.

Today things have changed a bit in both places. There’s a parking lot in one of them, while the second one is now part of Buenos Aires’ San Martín Cultural Center. Things changed, and so did the way the city looked. The places Duchamp knew are no longer the same, but it’s the same city anyway. Everything remains the same but it’s not the same, like some philosopher once said.

We want to find out about the things Duchamp did in this city. As far as we know, he worked for a while on the details of the Big Glass, and he painted a frame on the walls of his studio green-bluish. He also created some chess pieces and, last but not least, he sent a geometry book to his sister, so she could tie it up to the balcony of her house and thus let time be in charge of the work construction. In Buenos Aires, he plays chess with his usual enthusiasm. He says: "I play it night and day and there’s nothing in the whole world I’m more interested than in finding the right move".

According to Mallarmé, and to Duchamp as well, hazard builds up the arts, an art that gets shape from life itself and without the inspiration’s presence. A hazard that orders and condemns anything we do, that always takes us to the manifest destiny of our own ways. A hazard that, like in dreams, puts our imaginary together, like a jigsaw puzzle, that later will be present in daily actions. Have I already lived this or is it a dream? Everyday we hazardously go out and it’s nothing but hazard that builds up the stage of dreams day after day. We do a haunting, and when we finally have that last prey, everything will be over and then...we’ll wake up.
